Surviving Tax Season: H&M Style

Tax season is in full swing. Also known as “busy season,” this time of year has accountants everywhere working nearly around the clock ahead of the important tax deadlines that are upon us.

We asked members of our tax team how they cope with this time of year. How do they keep their sanity in check so they can provide top-notch service to our valued clients? I would say some things that I cannot live without during busy season are coffee and exercise. Also, taking one evening off to grab dinner and catch up with friends. Jennifer Moore

For me it is making time for family on the weekends……having family get together on Sunday afternoon for dinner and some sort of activity like bowling or going to TopGolf or just taking grandkids to a playground if weather cooperates!  Robert Buckley

I make sure I dedicate some time for myself and things I enjoy.  Whether that’s taking an hour to watch Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday or grabbing dinner with friends.  These things allow my brain to take a break, so I can really focus on my work. – Natalie Bruns

I really enjoy attending Ohio State Basketball games with great friends and my wife.  It is my busy season respite. – Brad Ridge

The thing that helps me get through tax season is exercise.  After sitting at a computer for 12 plus hours it’s a great way to reduce stress.  It also helps with back pain and headaches. – Bryan Davidson

One thing I can’t live without during tax season is trying to get in a workout or at least some physical activity before work to keep me feeling good even when I am feeling tired or run down. – Cody Seiter

I would say getting plenty of AM coffee, sleep and exercise. Also, managing reasonable expectations and striving to keep stress at bay also goes a long way this time of year.Stephen Smith

I can’t live without chocolate during tax season. I keep a bag of individual wrapped Dove chocolate hearts in my desk drawer and eat one a day.  I also do yoga 2 – 3 times a week to relax and clear my mind from the daily stresses of tax season. -Danielle Cottle
