Interns are a valuable asset to any accounting operation. Over the years, we have been blessed to have many talented students work with us through our internship program. One of these special people recently completed her time with us as an intern and was kind enough to share her thoughts and experiences with us upon her departure.

We are thrilled to share Ritika Harish’s write-up below. Ritika is now in her third year studying Finance at The Ohio State University:

I want to take a moment to highlight my 10-week internship this summer at Holbrook & Manter, CPAs as an Accounting Intern. During this internship, I immersed myself in various sectors within accounting. From audit and tax to business services. Working across these diverse areas gave me a comprehensive understanding of the field, deepening my interest in accounting. 

Over the course of my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a wide-range of tasks- from reviewing audit letters and tax returns to assisting clients with bookkeeping using Intuit QuickBooks and Sage products. This experience allowed me to explore a holistic perspective of accounting by working with diverse clients who had varying needs. One of the key highlights was preparing financial statements and accurately recording journal entries, which not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of how these processes drive business decisions. 

Additionally, I am able to create models to simplify bookkeeping processes, leveraging my classroom knowledge in a practical setting. From developing models for yearly forecasts to conducting yearly audit comparisons, I was able to expand my knowledge and apply it effectively.  A significant achievement during my internship was completing the training towards attaining my QuickBooks certification, which enabled me to harness financial data more effectively and develop record-keeping models for clients. 

I would like to express my gratitude to all of my collogues at Holbrook & Manter, especially Danielle Cottle and Carmen George for their valuable support throughout my internship. I enjoyed expanding my professional skills and expertise in the accounting and finance sectors. This internship was an incredible learning experience, and I look forward to building on this foundation as I continue my academic and professional journey.
